Определить ключевые причины и роль углеводородных ресурсов в возникновении политического кризиса и гражданской войны в Сирии, а также оценить внутренние и внешние факторы, которые привели к возникновению и распространению сирийского конфликта в 2011–2016 гг. Процедуры и методы. Теоретической основой выступают неореализм, неолиберализм и системный подход к анализу международных отношений, а также историкогенетический, историко-сравнительный методы. Результаты. Сделан вывод о значимости разных факторов в развитии сирийского кризиса. Начало политического кризиса в Сирии является иллюстрацией того, как зависимость экономического развития от добычи и экспорта нефти и газа на внешний рынок может сдерживать индустриализацию страны. Последовавшие неолиберальные реформы только усугубили проблемы, нанеся ущерб социальному развитию и усилив уже существующую социально-экономическую напряжённость в сирийском обществе, чем воспользовались внешние силы. По заключению автора, указанные факторы сделали Сирию уязвимой, обусловив начавшуюся гибридную войну и иностранное вмешательство. Теоретическая и практическая значимость. Полученные результаты создают предпосылки для дальнейшего детального изучения причин сирийского кризиса в частности и современных угроз национальной безопасности государства в целом.
